What Does Halal Mean?
Halal refers to anything that is permissible or allowed according to Islamic law. It primarily applies to food, beverages, and other products, but can also refer to actions, behavior, and practices. For food, halal means it meets specific criteria outlined in the Quran and Hadith, such as avoiding forbidden ingredients like pork or alcohol, and following proper slaughtering methods for animals.
DOES HALAL CONCERN YOUR INDUSTRY?
ABSOLUTELY!
Demand for halal products is increasing; whether you manufacture food products, cosmetics, own a restaurant, or a slaughterhouse, halal certification is important!

FAQs
A halal certificate is an official document issued by a recognized authority that verifies a product or service meets the requirements of Islamic law (Sharia). It ensures that the product, such as food, beverages, cosmetics, or pharmaceuticals, is free from prohibited ingredients (like pork or alcohol) and has been produced or processed according to halal standards. The certificate is often required by businesses to cater to Muslim consumers who seek halal products.
- First, you apply and submit documents (ingredient lists, process flows, supplier certifications).
- Then we schedule an evaluation audit (either remote or on-site) to inspect your facility.
- During the audit, we evaluate critical areas (sanitation, production risk zones, equipment usage) to check potential cross-contamination.
- After the audit, we issue a report. If non-conformities are identified, they must be corrected. Once everything is compliant, we issue the halal certificate.
We follow STIC principles:
- Sanitation — prevent cross-contamination
- Traceability — trace ingredients from supplier to final product
- Integrity — maintain clean production environments and processes
- Composition — ensure ingredients are permissible / halal
Haram (Impermissible) consumables are summarized in the following list:
1. Human derived ingredients
2. Pork
3. Donkey (excluding the Onager)
4. Animals with fangs or talons (Carnivorous)
(Excluding Hyena and Fox according to
school of thought)
5. Animals not slaughtered according to
Islamic ritual rites
6. Carrion
7. All forms of filth (Najis) i.e. Urine,
Excrement, Blood, Pus, Vomit, etc
8. Insects (other than locusts)
9. Animals fed with more than 50% of any of
the above without being fed on a pure diet
for a stipulated number of days (The
Jallaalah)
10. Any intoxicants
11. Anything toxic or harmful to the body (such
as cigarettes)
12. Anything processed, made, produced,
manufactured, and/or stored using utensils,
equipment, and/or machinery in contact with
any of the above that have not been cleansed
according to standards which remove
contaminants.
Yes! Something which is considered as Halal is not the same as a Halal Certified product. Halal is a general term related to the adjudication of a thing, while Halal certified products are products which have been duly vetted by a third-party halal certification body.
